Geocaching Favorites


Geocaching Favorites is a simple way to track and share the caches that you enjoyed the most. For every 10 caches that you have found, you will be able to Favorite 1 exceptional cache in your find history. The Favorites accumulated by a cache are displayed in search results and on the cache page so everyone can see which caches stand above the rest.

Premium Members can earn and spend Favorite Points, and sort search results by the most Favorited caches within a radius of your search. Basic Members also benefit by seeing how many Favorites a cache has earned in search results and on the individual cache pages.

New in Phase 2

Click the ribbon in search results to view the percentage of Premium Member finds to Favorites.



…and on the cache page by clicking the down arrow on the Favorites total.



We have other plans in the works for further modifying this number so that it accurately reflects the quality of a cache when other factors such as age and cache accessibility are taken into account.

In addition we have made it easier to Favorite a cache both before and after composing a Find log for it.

Geocaching Maps Beta

Give it a test drive!

Take one look and this new map speaks for itself. The fundamental engineering of the maps has been completely revamped to utilize a tiling system that generates and stores map tile images on the fly. Once an area has been generated the data is cached briefly so subsequent visits to that area appear almost instantaneously. No more waiting, and no more 500 cache limit!

What was your biggest caching day of all time? Geocaching Statistics lets you visualize your geocaching activity in different ways, and serves as a checklist of challenges to tackle in the process of becoming a well-rounded geocacher.

View your caching activity in regions around the world with these new interactive maps. Scroll over a country to view the number of caches found within a region.



Milestones

You can now display your major geocaching milestones in a separate tab of your public statistics. Allow the site to generate the milestones on your behalf, or make individual corrections in your Account Details.

Também detectei um erro no cálculo das estatísticas do geo.com. Falta contabilizar uma cache no nosso caso.
Ou seja, no profile, na secção "Geocaches", diz que encontrámos 2688 caches, mas na secção "Statistics" já diz 2687.

Geocaching.com site update March 8th 2011

NOTE: The release is in progress - this is a preview until the deployment is complete. Sit tight!

After several feature-heavy releases it was time to circle back and fix some bugs. With the help of geocachers providing feedback on User Voice we identified some high-visibility issues and did a little house cleaning. This also gave us time to monitor site performance and plan for future feature enhancements.

The Beta Maps introduced before the winter holidays continue to perform well under load. Soon we'll begin more closely integrating them into the rest of the site, as well as add a few more tools to make them even more useful. Thank you for all the feedback so far!

Geocaching Videos

For over a year the Groundspeak video crew has traveled far and wide to create dozens of entertaining and engaging videos. Check out the new videos page, share it with friends, and go geocaching vicariously while the boss isn't looking*.

Geocaching.com UI and Performance Update

The first thing you'll notice in this update is a new look and experience for the entire website. The homepage is now shorter and less cluttered, with a single search box (for location and GC code) and scrolling activity feed displaying logs created by geocachers from around the world. In addition, the side navigation has been relocated to the top of the page and reorganized in a more logical fashion.

We have also undertaken a massive database upgrade to accompany the site redesign. Once this is completed the site will be much more responsive during periods of heavy load and allow us to continue growing into the future.

As with any major update, we have made every effort to ensure that existing functionality will not be affected. During our testing phase we paid particular attention to how the changes would affect cache pages that utilize extensive user-generated code and tables/images to ensure they would handle the transition gracefully. With more than a million geocaches listed, there is always the chance we missed one or two :anibad:. If you see any pages that need extra attention please let us know here or on the [url="http://feedback.geocaching.com"]feedback engine[/url], and we will fix them asap.



Mapping Fixes

Recently we turned off "personalization" (in other words, smileys) on the Google Maps interface in order to keep up with the increased traffic we are experiencing. While this move kept Geocaching.com performing well, it unfortunately caused a good deal of inconvenience to our users. We apologize sincerely for this and assure you it would not have happened if there had been a better option for us.

However, with a new database server in place we're pleased to be able to add some of the lost functionality to the Beta Maps, and we will continue working into the next release to duplicate and enhance the existing map functionality. Here are the fixes in brief:

• Beta Maps will display smileys for all users when personalization is turned on
• Premium Only caches will display for all users on Beta Maps, with coordinates slightly obscured

Geocaching.com site update May 24th

The website will be down for a few minutes in the next hour for a full site release to address the following cases:

*"Your Profile" dropdown menu in nav with new options for accessing your stuff
*Increased zoom level on Maps Beta
*Pocket Query integration for Premium Members on Maps Beta
*Home location now autofilled in search on home page if logged in and home location is set in profile
*Added ability to edit Trackable origin and date released
*GPX files sent to Garmin devices via Send to GPs now properly display basic HTML in cache descriptions
*Fixed error sometimes causing login widget to disappear from home page
*The "last log" column when viewing Trackables now correctly displays the date in the user's preferred format
*Visited links text color has been corrected to display in a different color than unvisited links
*Fixed formatting of very long cache hints so they don't overlap the decryption key
*Dropping a Trackable when editing a log is available as an option once again
*Clicking on a Trackable stop on the Trackable map now correctly displays the cache name in which it was placed

Geocaching.com Maps Beta Upgrades

Premium Members may now create Pocket Queries from the current map view, based on the current map location and filter options such as hiding your finds and specific cache types. In addition, when viewing a Pocket Query you will find a new list on the right displaying the cache names of all the caches in the PQ. Clicking a name will center the map on that cache.




What Else is New?

• A Trackable owner may now set collectible preference during Trackable activation
• Added the number of logs in the last 30 days to the home page
• Added "Tell a Friend" link to the Resources site navigation dropdown

Bug Fixes

• Restored user cellpadding and cellspacing on cache details user supplied content
• Profile pages updated to preserve layout of GSAK statistics
• Fixed server error when clicking the "Send updates to Twitter" link
• Removed cache size option when reporting a new event cache
• Fixed sort order bug with saved routes in Caches Along a Route feature

• Fixed bug which prevented purchasing a Gift Membership for a user with extended characters in their username
• Entering multiple question marks in a Personal Cache Note no longer causes a javascript error
• Fixed sort order bug when viewing caches found by a user; most recently found cache is displayed at the top
• When logged in, the home page search field containing your home coordinates will now be auto-selected when clicked
• Fixed Maps Beta bug where viewing a location at close zoom in satellite view would cause cache icons to disappear
