Ainda é um trabalho muito manual, que dá muito trabalho. E pintá-las então.. ui que trabalheira.

No Fórum das Pathtags disponibilizaram estas fotos e links onde se fazem 300.000 geocoins, pathtags, pins e outros tipos de "medalhas" por dia!!!



"Each pathtag is hand painted, one-by-one.
After a tag has been minted, it is inspected and then sent to the paint room. The colors ordered are custom mixed for each pathtag. The factory has a BIG pantone book that tells them what base colors to mix for the colors you ordered.
Based upon the number of tags you ordered, that amount of paint is mixed. I asked why they don't just make up big batches of the common colors and the answer was that they don't want the enamel to go stale.
Workers use syringes with micro-tips to fill in the various tag pools with enamel. The detail of the tag will determine the size of the tip used. But they can only go so small."

"When there are multiple colors for a tag, and most are, each color is applied to all the tags at once. i.e. all the red paint in applied to all the tags then all the blue, then all the green, etc.

This allows the first red fills to semi-set while the rest of the tags are painted with red. Then the first tags are painted blue and so on. So the tags move in a big circle with each color applied one at a time. Why, if the worker makes a mistake and accidentally get blue into the red, then it is easier to clean up the mistake.

The painting is one of the slowest parts of manufacturing a tag. As I said earlier, each tag is painted one at a time, by hand. And then it needs to dry and be inspected."



"Here is a picture of the final inspection, bagging and mailing room. I was standing in the middle of the room when I took the picture. Think three times the size and four times the amount of workers! I would estimate 250-300 painters per shift."

"The factory first fills the regular enamel onto the metal, and then sprays the glow/glitter powder onto the liquid enamel(the powder will stick onto the liquid enamel) and finally the factory will dry the enamel. This will make the powder firmly stick into the enamel."
