Hoje passei em frente da primeira cache que fiz.

A Kir-6 ( http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=c7b803c6-d80e-4081-a42d-16e12f6541cf ) é uma virtual já bastante idosa na zona de Belém. Durante muito tempo foi uma das opções iniciáticas mais óbvias em Lisboa.

O meu log faz parecer que me levantei de uma cadeira e fui à procura da cache. Não transmiti a sensação de excitação em que estava, quando introduzi as coordenadas no meu Geko, e segui a setinha. O misto de antecipação e receio expectante ("será que a vou encontrar? Como será?") que tinha quando saí do carro e atravessei o jardim até ao ground-zero - e perceber nessa altura o que era uma cache virtual!

Uma das coisas giras é que, como refiro no log, aquele local era para mim, sobretudo, o sítio em que tinha começado um Challenger's Trophy nacional (com uma prova de canoagem em rafts, no Tejo, que me deu a conhecer a realidade dos esgotos de Lisboa...). Hoje, confesso que, quando passo por ali, a primeira coisa que faço é procurar pela "Kir-6 at Belem".

Visitei essa cache à cerca de 15 dias. Foi a minha primeira virtual.

Fiquei admirado pelo facto do Kir ter respondido a partir da Finlândia ao meu e-mail obrigatório. Essa cache é de 2002, mas ele ainda se deve sentir um pouco o Provedor desse cantinho de Lisboa.

Eis o meu primeiro log, na cache Castelo de Alcanede [Santarém]. A descoberta foi partilhada com o geo-jlf.

Foi uma grande emoção, e tudo era novo para nós!

Esta foi a nossa primeira cache de sempre! Ainda nem sequer temos receptor de GPS, mas vamos comprar.
Estamos de passagem a caminho de Santarém, depois de termos percorrido os 9 Km do percurso pedestre "Algar do Pena" (excelente passeio!).
Obrigado por esta cache com óptima localização.

This was my first cache ever. It was a nice feeling, the finding moment. Well, I live not too far so the location wasn't a real surprise for me.

I have to mention that yesterday the major wildfire ever in Portugal was extinguished, with one of its fronts reaching a point 6 km from the cache (when a fire travels for 80 km, 6 more is just one more step).

Era uma vez... na Serra da Boa Viagem dos Rifkindsss

Não se pode dizer que tenha expressado muita excitação...

O meu primeiro log foi em 26/5/2002, na "Pela Pré-História do Alentejo -I [Évora]" e foi difícil porque não conseguia fotografar no écrân do GPSr as coordenadas publicadas na página da cache... pensava que tinha que provar através de foto das coordenadas.

Econtrámos as caches mas, devido à inexperiência, fizemos o percurso ao contrário começando pela 2ª. ou seja, encontrámos as caches mas não o inicio do percurso. Além de todos os pontos sugeridos também visitámos o Menir dos Almendres.
Foi uma experiência agradável e estamos com pica para continuar...

We've found the Caches but, due to our lack of experience, We did the itinerary in the reverse way, beginning with the 2nd cache instead of the 1st one. That is, we could find the caches but not the beginning of the itinerary!
It was a great experience! We're in the mood to continue...

Foi um começo algo trapalhão porque, sem saber revelei spoiler (mas agora a cache final já não está naquelas coordenadas), cometi erros de portugês e inglês e foi uma festa! Nunca mais parei. Apesar de o meu ritmo já ter sido mais intenso mas cá ando.

After some analysis, Tehanu decided that we would hunt this cache (although I think that it was more to make me stop talking about caching than anything else).

When we arrived to Palmela, we had a key-point referred in the Cache Page: the belvedere (follow the plates “Miradouro”) which has a wonderful view. There we noticed a rock wall that we would have to climb.

So, looking for a new approach we came down and turned right just after the small garden. We got to a house with some hen houses and dogs close to our path, and I, against my mate’s opinion, have decided not to risk following the path and draw the attention upon us.

Back in the car, we came around and arrived at Baixa de Palmela and the GPSr showed that we were only 190mts away from the coordinates given. That was the place, comparing with the 500mts showed at the belvedere, those almost 200 looked like a dream.

And there we went, up the hill, through what was *supposed* to be a short-cut.

Lesson #1: Shorts, skirt and sandals don’t match short-cut Geocaching.

Saving the short ½ litter of water Tehanu had the good sense to take (Lesson #2: Always take plenty of water), and many scratches later, we arrived up there.

GPSr indicated 7mts, precision 5mts under the olive tree. Tehanu rested right under the “nest” and in my first onslaught I almost put my hand on it without seeing it.
Tehanu was gasping for breath, I encouraged her to drink water and she said me: The arrow pointed there…
I took the little device a bit away and started walking in her direction. Precision was now indicating some safe 2mts, proximity 5 mts and decreasing, 3 mts, 2 mts, 0mts. The small Vista Cx was now revealing it’s real valour. It had to be there. I went up there and Voilá!

First thought: Stupid fool, you had your hand ON it….
Once the egg opened, the logs read and the discovery logged it was time to trade.

Tehanu wanted the TB, but I thought that a TB was probably too soon for us, since we’re still newbs at these things and the fear of Not Founds still wanders about our heads, so we took nothing.

With the egg full again, I put it into the bag together with a wrist watch and a pen (the pencil’s writing point is broken). Around the place there was a balloon (those metallic ones from the festivals) with clown shape that I brought down to a new life: The garbage can.

After a little more punishment from the wilderness in our legs and feet, we arrived at the car where its A/C awaited us.

It was time to get some fresh drinks, to wash ourselves up, take care of the wounds and head home.

The Cache is in a place with a really wonderful sight (my opinion, not Tehanu’s, who found it reasonably pleasant). Setúbal is fantasticly framed with the mountain range and the Sado River with Troia at range, witch we could admire from a good distance in that spot.
The place decidedly deserves the cache. Thank you very much for it.

I want to publicly ask for Tehanu’s forgiveness because she made a great sacrifice to get up there and I think I should listen to her more often (Lesson #3: Always listen to your mates, especially if its your girlfriend we’re talking about).

Grande surpresa esse arquivamento. Tenho muita pena pois era uma cache interessante e muito antiga.
Mas deu muito trabalho ao owner. Ao longo de 9 anos, o Kir respondeu a mais de 1000 emails para autorizar os logs.
E assim desaparece mais uma virtual clássica: restam 12.

Já agora, o Kir criou todas as suas caches em 2002 e 2003 e só mantém ativas as três mais antigas, todas na Filândia: Caches do Kir.

O meu primeiro log foi feito à saída do trabalho e a caminho do ensaio do coro na RUL. Ao mesmo tempo foi a minha primeira nano.

Cache #1

Muitas vezes passei por este sítio sem saber o que era uma cache. Mesmo sabendo que ali havia uma, só no segundo dia (olhando com muita atenção) é que a vi. Deixei lá mais um registo mas o log book já está muito cheio e a caixa não aguenta mais papeis.
