Visiting from the United States

Hello to my fellow addicted geocachers. I do not speak the language so I apologize if I am posting in the wrong location.

I will be visiting Lisbon the second week of October for business and it will be my first trip to Portugal.

I will not have a lot of time but would love some ideas for caches in and around Lisbon.

Thanks!! I'll make sure to bring lots of travel bugs. Also, if you have travel bugs you want to go back to the United States let me know.

jcdecker (North Carolina, United States)

welcome!

Just be so welcome!
You will find lots of good caches in the city and around... Sintra, Cascais and in the left bank of Tejo also. My best spots goes to Monsanto area.

If you're visiting on the second week of October, you'll probably be able to join a few geocachers in a unofficial and very laid back monthly event taking place on friday. From then on, you'll probably be able to join a few of us on a night tour geocaching. Just keep in touch using this thread.

Besides that, you should probably take a look at a few bookmarks like these which point out some caches worth visiting. Unfortunately, there are way too much mistery and multi caches that will either take you much time to solve (feel free, if that's your cup of tea) or present no english translation (or only a link to automatic translation). If you want to, contact me using geocaching.com and we'll figure a way to solve that.

Perfectly. It´s the former Hotel Alfa. Lately it was known as Corinthia Alfa and probably they finaly change the name to Corinthia. You´ll be staying near the Zoo (there´s a cache there) and the Monsanto forest park where you can find some nice caches. You´re also near the Subway wich means you can go almost anywhere in Lisbon in a quick way and i´m sure that some of us woudn´t mind to do some caches together around town.

You also have some nice caches in the airport surroundings that you can visit if you have the time.

Regards
Alberto

Getting a tour from local cachers would be great! I'll buy dinner and a coupon for a tour if you ever make it to North Carolina.

All,

Well my trip is planned and will arrive this coming Sunday morning. I hope to have time Sunday until 4 p.m. and either Monday or Tuesday night. I have done a pocket query for a 2 mile circle from my hotel and have 45 caches ! I think that is enough :D

I have about 10 travel bugs and coins I will need to leave so if I can't put them in caches I would like to hand them off to local cachers.

I am excited about visiting Lisbon.
